VIDEO Deconstruction of UFO Footage

This video was remixed by an uber nerd. It just keeps getting better. I feel if there was commentary it would be something like:

"If we take a line from the circumference of the earth and curve it out to the object. It's virtually impossible to tell how large or how far away the object is due to the variable factors of the two measurements. The only way to explain this video is that there had to have been a shift in the frequencies allowing the videographer to see into the fourth dimension."

Best News Story of The Year - It's Raining Fish! Hallelujah!

Some kind of tornado at sea apparently picked up a whole bunch of fish.  Not only a bunch of fish but a bunch of the same kind of fish!  Picked them up into the air and made some kind of floating fish cloud then 326 miles later or probably farther since that is just the closest point to the nearest river dumped them on a town in Australia.  I love it.  Click on the picture for the full story.

Jimmy Carter as Robotoid

Everything I am about to write is heavily documented on the internet. Do an internet search for any of these facts and you will get plenty of hits if you don’t believe me. This is pretty much the funniest story I’ve heard in a while.

In October 1969, Jimmy Carter saw a UFO while he was the Governor of Atlanta and reported it to the International UFO Bureau. He was 44 years old. He said, “It was the darndest thing I've ever seen…If I become President, I'll make every piece of information this country has about UFO sightings available to the public and the scientists.”

That’s when it started. After that encounter, Jimmy Carter didn’t last too much longer. During his presidency, Jimmy Carter was replaced with a humanoid that was made of cow parts. The technology was not too good and the FBI had to use a lot of cows to maintain the humanoid. That is the reason for the increase of cattle mutilations during the Carter years.

The media started to catch on so the technology had to be upgraded. In 1979, Jimmy Carter the humanoid was replaced by a robotoid. The robotoid was much easier to maintain.

It sounds like it is a pretty intense process building the robotoid, according to Audio Letter No. 46. By Dr. Peter David Beter, “Robotoids are "manufactured" first by copying the memory of an entire brain. A holographic image is made of the host’s brain and that is transferred into the biological matter functioning as a brain of the robotoid, but adjustments have to be taught and programmed into the mind of the robotoid since the body and brain of the robotoid are not identical to the original person being copied.”

How Do These Stories Go Under The Radar?

Invisibility cloak one step closer, scientists say.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Scientists have created two new types of materials that can bend light the wrong way, creating the first step toward an invisibility cloaking device.

One approach uses a type of fishnet of metal layers to reverse the direction of light, while another uses tiny silver wires, both at the nanoscale level.

Both are so-called metamaterials -- artificially engineered structures that have properties not seen in nature, such as negative refractive index.

The two teams were working separately under the direction of Xiang Zhang of the Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center at the University of California, Berkeley with U.S. government funding. One team reported its findings in the journal Science and the other in the journal Nature.

Each new material works to reverse light in limited wavelengths, so no one will be using them to hide buildings from satellites, said Jason Valentine, who worked on one of the projects.

"We are not actually cloaking anything," Valentine said in a telephone interview. "I don't think we have to worry about invisible people walking around any time soon. To be honest, we are just at the beginning of doing anything like that."

Valentine's team made a material that affects light near the visible spectrum, in a region used in fiber optics.

"In naturally occurring material, the index of refraction, a measure of how light bends in a medium, is positive," he said.

"When you see a fish in the water, the fish will appear to be in front of the position it really is. Or if you put a stick in the water, the stick seems to bend away from you."

These are illusions caused by the light bending when it moves between water and air.

NEGATIVE REFRACTION

The negative refraction achieved by the teams at Berkeley would be different.

"Instead of the fish appearing to be slightly ahead of where it is in the water, it would actually appear to be above the water's surface," Valentine said. "It's kind of weird."

For a metamaterial to produce negative refraction, it must have a structural array smaller than the wavelength of the electromagnetic radiation being used. This was done using microwaves in 2006 by David Smith of Duke University in North Carolina and John Pendry of Imperial College London.

Visible light is harder. Some groups managed it with very thin layers, virtually only one atom thick, but these materials were not practical to work with and absorbed a great deal of the light directed at it.

"What we have done is taken that material and made it much thicker," Valentine said.

His team, whose work is reported in Nature, used stacked silver and metal dielectric layers stacked on top of each other and then punched through with holes. "We call it a fishnet," Valentine said.

The other team, reporting in Science, used an oxide template and grew silver nanowires inside porous aluminum oxide at tiny distances apart, smaller than the wavelength of visible light. This material refracts visible light.

Immediate applications might be superior optical devices, Valentine said -- perhaps a microscope that could see a living virus.

"However, cloaking may be something that this material could be used for in the future," he said. "You'd have to wrap whatever you wanted to cloak in the material. It would just send light around. By sending light around the object that is to be cloaked, you don't see it."

homunculus and zombie research

i've seen a couple television shows recently about the philosopher's stone, turning lead into gold and the golden section. Screw all that stuff about stem cell research and DNA cloning. What I would like to know is what is the white powder that turns people into zombies and has anybody tried to create a homunculus recently?

Fitz here...Your liger eye in the sky tracking down demented creatures on the internet. Here's the latest news from China's Yichun Jiangxi zoo where apparently a villager (who was not performing DNA restructuring in the basement) captured this seven year old (how do they know how old the creature is?) animal with a pig nose, rabbit eyes and a fox body.

Eyeball Tattoo

Not a tattoo of an eyeball but a tattoo on an actual eyeball. Apparently this technique has been used on blind eyeballs to correct some type of visual imperfection so a blind persons eyeball doesn't look weird but this guy just did it to see if it could be done.

Norway's Moose Population in Trouble for Belching

The poor old Scandinavian moose is now being blamed for climate change, with researchers in Norway claiming that a grown moose can produce 2,100 kilos of carbon dioxide a year -- equivalent to the CO2 output resulting from a 13,000 kilometer car journey.

Now poor moose are being blamed for global warming.
Norway is concerned that its national animal, the moose, is harming the climate by emitting an estimated 2,100 kilos of carbon dioxide a year through its belching and farting.

Norwegian newspapers, citing research from Norway's technical university, said a motorist would have to drive 13,000 kilometers in a car to emit as much CO2 as a moose does in a year.

Bacteria in a moose's stomach create methane gas which is considered even more destructive to the environment than carbon dioxide gas. Cows pose the same problem (more...).

Norway has some 120,000 moose but an estimated 35,000 are expected to be killed in this year's moose hunting season, which starts on September 25, Norwegian newspaper VG reported.

Changing Cows' Diet Could Cut Emissions

Cows are methane-making machines, with their inefficient digestion producing hundreds of liters of the greenhouse gas every day. Now scientists are looking at ways to make things go down a little more gently for the ruminanting grass-munchers.

While people are being asked to reduce the amounts of flights they take and make their homes more energy efficient, what they put on their plates could be having as big an impact on climate change. Gas-guzzling SUVs and badly insulated buildings are partly to blame for the earth's greenhouse gas emissions, but it seems the humble grass-munching cow is also a major culprit.

Agriculture is responsible for producing 37 percent of global methane emissions, a gas that is 23 times more potent than CO2 when it comes to global warming. And much of this gas comes from the burps of ruminating animals such as cows and sheep. If a cow's manners could be improved a bit, then the world might just stop warming quite so fast. And it could be as simple as getting them to graze on different types of plants. Scientists at the University of Aberystwyth are now working on using plant-breeding methods to develop new diets for livestock.

Normally a cow's stomach is pretty inefficient -- 80 percent of food ingested comes out as waste or methane. The average cow produces between 300 and 500 liters of methane a day, most of it through belching. "There is a common misperception about how methane gets into the atmosphere," Michael Abberton, a scientist at the Aberystwsth's Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research, said Monday. "It is actually through belching rather than the other end."

Abberton told a briefing on farming and climate change at London's Science Media Center that the key could be developing new varieties of legumes and grass, as well as planting more clover and birdsfoot trefoil, a common wildflower. These could change the way the bacteria in the cow's gut breaks down food. According to the scientist, developing new varieties of plants which are easier to digest could allow farmers to avoid reducing stock while still cutting methane emissions.

Across the world, people have increasingly turned to meat-rich diets -- in fact methane concentrations have increased by around 100 percent since 1900. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), global meat production is projected to more than double from 229 million tons in 1999/2001 to 465 million tons by 2050, while milk output is set to climb from 580 to 1,043 million tons. And agricultural livestock is already hogging 30 percent of the earth's entire land surface if you count the crops necessary to feed them, according to a 2006 United Nations report.

The search for ways of reducing methane production in agriculture is, therefore, an important part of tackling climate change. In fact it has become a whole research field of its own.

For example, researchers at the Rowett Research Institute in Aberdeen are looking at the effects of feed additives on methane reduction. Dr. John Wallace, who is leading the research, told the BBC earlier this year: "We've done a lamb trial recently in which we ... obtained a 70 percent decrease in methane formation."

And Michael Kreuzer, professor of Animal Nutrition at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, is also researching the effect of introducing feed additives, which he claims could reduce the amount of methane produced by between 10 and 40 percent.

Meanwhile in New Zealand, where agriculture accounts for almost 50 percent of the country's greenhouse gas emissions, scientists are working on reducing methane by getting rid of the microbes in animals' stomachs that produce methane.
